TOWN OF STAFFORD PUBLIC HEARING

FOR THE PRELIMINARY BUDGET OF 2024

OCTOBER 24, 2023

Supervisor Bob Clement opened the Public Hearing for the Preliminary Budget of 2024 at 7:00pm with the Pledge of Allegiance.

In attendance were, Councilman Panek, Councilman Schramm, Councilman Duyssen, Councilman Pacer, Highway Superintendent Boldt and Town Clerk Radley.

Gary Snell, Phyllis Darling, Andrew Darling, Stephanie Call, Brian and Laurie Pocock were also in attendance.

Supervisor Clement started the Public Hearing by reading the summary of the Budget of $1,125,199.00 then asked if there were any questions from anyone attending. Gary Snell asked about the Fire Department and what interest they have had, and that the Town should keep the interest generated. It was said that we cannot keep the interest. The Fire Department will have the money by 2026 to pay for the new trucks without borrowing, which saves quite a bit of money. They also stated that they are scaling back the trucks they currently own to also save money. Stephanie Call gave Gary Snell a copy of the breakdown of expenses and income.

It was also stated that without a carnival to generate money, it is difficult to keep up with the expenses and inflation. The Fire Department is looking into fund raising efforts to occur soon.

Phyllis Darling asked about the back page Assessor’s Report. These are the exemptions for property taxes and where they originated.

Councilman Pacer made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:20pm, second by Councilman Duyssen and approved on a 5-0 vote.

Respectfully Submitted

Barbara Radley

Town Clerk/Tax Collector
